US-98 is the only through road and it gridlocks every summer afternoon; the Mid-Bay Bridge is a faster toll alternative to reach Niceville. HarborWalk Village is the concentrated evening, with waterfront bars, summer fireworks and boat crews coming off charters, while AJ's and the Boathouse Oyster Bar sit on the same stretch of Destin Harbor. This is a family and fishing town rather than a spring-break one, so the crowd skews older and earlier than Panama City Beach an hour east. Sandestin's Baytowne Wharf is the quieter alternative.
