Destin after dark
HarborWalk Village is the concentrated evening, with waterfront bars, summer fireworks and boat crews coming off charters, while AJ's and the Boathouse Oyster Bar sit on the same stretch of Destin Harbor. This is a family and fishing town rather than a spring-break one, so the crowd skews older and earlier than Panama City Beach an hour east. Sandestin's Baytowne Wharf is the quieter alternative.
What to eat in Destin
Royal red shrimp are the dish worth crossing town for: deepwater shrimp trawled off the continental shelf, sweet and closer to lobster than to Gulf whites, cooked briefly because they overcook in seconds.
