The two airport rail stations are privately owned and add a station access fee, which is why locals take the 400 bus. Tipping is not expected.
Sydney after dark
The lockout laws imposed in 2014 hollowed out Kings Cross, and although they were scrapped in 2020 the Cross never came back; the crowd moved to Newtown, Enmore Road and the small bars tucked into Surry Hills and Darlinghurst laneways. Most pubs stop serving around midnight midweek. On Friday and Saturday nights the trains run all night, which is the argument for staying out past the last bus.

Take the ferry to Taronga and ride the Sky Safari cable car up, so the transport becomes half the day.
