The theme parks are why people come and they are not cheap: Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Dreamworld and Wet'n'Wild each pass a hundred dollars at the gate, and multi-park passes only repay you past two visits. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is the better animal option. The free Burleigh Heads headland track through pandanus to Tallebudgera is the best hour on the coast. Surfers Paradise itself is a photo stop.

Eating well here means leaving Cavill Avenue. Burleigh Heads has become the serious strip, with Rick Shores serving its Moreton Bay bug roll almost on the sand at Burleigh Point.
