This is a fifty-kilometre strip rather than a town, so choosing a base matters more than anything else: Surfers for nightlife, Burleigh for food, Broadbeach for the tram and the casino. Buy theme-park tickets online, never at the gate. The airport at Coolangatta straddles the Queensland and New South Wales border, and Queensland skips daylight saving, so summer arrivals confuse everyone.
