The Great Market Hall's ground floor sells paprika and kolbasz while the upper gallery fries langos for tourists; the better version is at Retro Langos Bufe near Arany Janos utca. Halaszle, the fiery river fish soup, is the underrated order, and Dobos torta closes the meal.
Budapest after dark
The ruin bars began when Szimpla Kert took over a derelict Jewish Quarter tenement, and District VII still runs on that model of mismatched furniture, courtyards and crowds until dawn. Instant-Fogas is the sprawling one. Summer shifts outdoors to Hajogyari island and the Romai part riverbank. Palinka rounds are ritual, and clinking beer glasses is still quietly frowned upon.
