The Hungarian National Gallery inside Buda Castle holds Munkacsy and Csontvary. The Museum of Fine Arts has its Old Masters and restored Romanesque Hall back. Hospital in the Rock, a wartime bunker under Buda, is guided-tour only.
Budapest after dark
The ruin bars began when Szimpla Kert took over a derelict Jewish Quarter tenement, and District VII still runs on that model of mismatched furniture, courtyards and crowds until dawn. Instant-Fogas is the sprawling one. Summer shifts outdoors to Hajogyari island and the Romai part riverbank. Palinka rounds are ritual, and clinking beer glasses is still quietly frowned upon.
